Speaker adjourns House to tomorrow for want of quorum

Puducherry Feb 3 (PTI): Puducherry Assembly Speaker RRadhakrishnan today adjourned the House to tomorrow for wantof quorum twice, affecting proceedings in the debate on motionof thanks to the Lt Governor for his address yesterday.

The debate was among the agenda listed for business. WhenCongress member N Anandh started thanking the Lt Governor, awant of quorum occured as only nine members were present, asagainst the required 10. The Speaker raised the caution belland a Minister rushed into the House and restored quorum.

But one member went out,again affecting proceedings. AIADMKlegislature party leader A Anbalagan said it was a sadcommentary on democracy that quorum was not availablesuccessively.

He also took strong exception to holding the sessionwithout a whip. (P Angalane who was the whip had resigned fromthe post of MLA on January 20 along with former Chief MinisterN Rangasamy reducing the strength of Congress in the 30 memberHouse from 13 to 11).

(All seven DMK legislators are in Chennai to participate inthe party''s General Council meeting and were not present inthe proceedings in the House).
