Cong says increase in development fund by MCD a ''fraud''

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) The Opposition Congress in MCDtoday accused the ruling BJP of not implementing properly theproposals unveiled in earlier budgets and playing a "fraud" bypromising to hike fund for development work by councillors.

A number of councillors from both the parties joinedthe debate on the MCD''s budget for 2011-12 at a specialmeeting of the corporation.

Congress member Rakesh Rajora said the BJP was playinga "fraud" by promising to sanction Rs 1.5 crore fordevelopment work in each ward this fiscal. Congress has beensaying that releasing the fund in remaining two months of thisfinancial year is not possible while BJP insists the moneywill be available over the next few months if it is "booked"now.

Rajora also demanded release of stalled payment forcontractors as well as pension for the widows, elderly andphysically challenged which had been halted for the last fewmonths.

Congress councillor Anita Babbar said the BJP did notproperly or fully implement several schemes and proposalsunveiled in earlier budget such as door-to-door garbagecollection, night cleaning of markets and hostel for workingwomen.

BJP councillors raised issues like need for improvedsanitation services in unauthorised colonies and took on theCongress over price rise, terming it "anti-poor".
