7 held for committing robberies in Delhi buses

New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) Seven persons, including the gangleader, allegedly involved in a series of robberies in runningbuses were arrested in south Delhi, police said today.

With their arrest, police claimed they foiled the attemptto rob cash from passengers of a Gurgaon-bound bus plying onMehrauli-Badarpur Road.

"The gang leader Khalid Ahmed (28) is in touch with hisaccomplices operating in Delhi and mediates between othergangs on the issue of area dominion. He also provides legalhelp to the members of the gang whenever they are apprehended.

Besides, he provides financial support to the family of anymember who is in jail," H G S Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner ofPolice (South), said.

The other arrested have been identified as Javed (27),Tahir (27), Birju, (28), Naresh Sharma (24), Guddu (26) andVipin Kumar (40).

Six gang members, including Ahmed, were arrested nearSaket Metro station, while Kumar was apprehended from LadoSarai following their interrogation. "We had input that theymay intercept and commit robbery at Mehrauli-Badarpur Road ina chartered bus bound for Gurgaon," Dhaliwal said.

The gang leader is running a well organised gang of around15-20 robbers, auto lifters and snatchers who are well-versedwith the topography of entire Delhi and NCR and have minutedetails of the routes of traders and potential victims, hesaid.
