20 lakh take holy dip on Mauni Amavasya
Allahabad, Feb 2 (PTI) Amid tight security, an estimated20 lakh devotees took holy dip at the confluence of Ganga,Yamuna and mythical river Saraswati on the auspicious occasionof Mauni Amavasya.
Devotees, both from the city and the rural areas nearby,walked several miles on foot to reach the Sangam, where theannual religious congregation of Magh Mela is also underway,as vehicular traffic was suspended in the area for the day inview of the heavy rush.
According to official sources, more than 20 lakh peopletook a dip in the Sangam till evening.
Police personnel, assisted by the Provincial ArmedConstabulary and the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Uttar Pradeshmaintained a tight vigil.
