Venkataswamy in for trouble after his anti-Sonia remarks

New Delhi, Feb 1 (PTI) Senior Congress leader from AndhraPradesh G Venkataswamy, who demanded the resignation of SoniaGandhi as party chief, is in for serious trouble with theparty high command taking a serious note of his stridentcriticism of her.

"We have taken note of it", party General SecretaryJanardan Dwivedi said when asked about the Telangana leader''sattack on Gandhi.

The 82-year old former Deputy leader of the party in theLok Sabha had demanded that Italy-born Sonia Gandhi step downas party chief and make way for an "Indian".

In a no-holds-barred attack on Congress leadership,Venkataswamy alleged corruption has grown and that the nationand party were suffering from various ills.

Congress sources said Venkataswamy''s attack needed to beseen in the light of the fact that he was soon going to be outof the Congress Working Committee which Gandhi isreconstituting.

The sources said the party chief has the powers tosummarily expel a CWC member if he resorted to anti-partyactivities.

Talking separately, Party spokesman Manish Tewari saidif Venkataswamy had made such a statement it was "veryunfortunate" and he should not have made such remarks.
