Murder convict escapes from Sabarkantha district jail

Banaskantha, Jan 30 (PTI) A murder convict serving lifesentence escaped from Sabarkantha district prison, located indistrict headquarters Himmatnagar, here today, police said.

"Ramesh Bavadiya was lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail inAhmedabad. After being convicted for murder he was transferredto Himmatnagar jail on July 5, 2010," Sabarmati districtJailor R S Bhuriya said.

The incident occurred when Bavadiya was working on ajail-owned snack joint run by inmates on the roadside near theprison itself.

"Today there was rush at the snack joint and takingadvantage of that, he (Bavadiya) managed to escape," Bhuriyasaid.

"We have informed the police and search for the prisoneris on. Border areas of the town have been cordoned off and wehope to nab the prisoner soon," Bhuriya said.

Bavadiya belongs to a village in Poshina in Khedbrahmataluka of Sabarkantha district.
