Chidambaram indicates Chetia''s home coming may be delayed
New Delhi, Jan 31 (PTI) The Centre today indicated thatULFA leader Anup Chetia''s is unlikely to be handed over toIndia by Bangladesh very soon as a court there was stillhearing a case related to him.
Home Minister P Chidambaram said the position related toChetia, who has been in the custody of Bangladesh since 1997,remained unchanged.
"I think there is no change in the position. He is now inBangladesh, under some kind of custody. Therefore, as far aswe are concerned, there is no change in the position," he saidwhen asked how soon the ULFA general secretary would be handedover to New Delhi by Dhaka.
43-year-old Chetia, who was arrested on December 21, 1997in Dhaka for illegally entering Bangladesh and possessing twoforged passports of that country, has completed his prisonterm.
However, his application seeking political asylum in theneighbouring country was still being heard by a court inDhaka, delaying the process of his handing over to India byBangladesh.
