Judicial meet stresses on speedy justice

Cuttack, Jan 29 (PTI) Aimed at making senior judicialofficers capable to deliver speedy and ''quality justice'', athree-day East Zone Regional Judicial Conference has beeninaugurated by Orissa Governor Muralidhar ChandrakantBhandare.

Inaugurating the meet ''To Enhance QualityAdjudication'' yesterday, Bhandare told over 100 participatingjudicial officers - from Orissa, West Bengal, Jharkhand,Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Sikkim and Assam - "justice is the firstthing referred in our constitution."

"Any inequalities must be removed to ensure speedyjustice to the poor," he pointed out.

Speakers including Law Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh,Orissa High Court Chief Justice V Gopal Gowda and other judgesof the high court expressed concern over the pending cases inthe courts and unanimously concurred that it is the poor whosuffers the most due to any delay in justice delivery system.

The conference is scheduled to be addressed by atleast four Supreme Court judges and chief justices ofGuwahati and Delhi High Courts.
