Govt shouldn''t think opposition not ready for poll: Rajnath
Kozhikode, Jan 29 (PTI) BJP today said UPA governmentshould not to nurture the "mistaken" belief that opposition isnot ready for a mid-term poll and hence would give up itsdemand for a JPC probe into 2-G Spectrum allocation ahead ofbudget session of Parliament to avoid such a situation.
"The government seems to be mistaken that oppositionparties are not ready for elections. BJP is ready to face themid-term polls if the situation arises," former partypresident Rajnath Singh said here.
He made the remarks with reference to the oppositiondemand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into 2-GSpectrum allocation scam and maintained that the oppositionwould stick to its demand.
"The government continues to run the risk of putting theforthcoming budget session in jeopardy. It is the governmentsresponsibility to ensure Parliament''s smooth functioning.
Therefore, it should institute a JPC inquiry into the 2Gspectrum allocation before the commencement of budget sessionof Parliament," Singh said.
Senior leader L K Advani had said at BJP''s GuwahatiNational Executive recently that the government was merelycreating the fear of a mid-term poll to keep its alliestogether as MPs would not like to face general elections justmore than one year into their new term.
Advani had also indicated that no mid-term polls wereon the anvil.
There are apprehensions that the budget session, likethe winter session, of Parliament would be washed out due tostalemate on the issue of a JPC probe.
Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee hascalled an all-party meeting on February 8 to discuss the issueand find a way out of the logjam.
Earlier attempts at ending the deadlock had failed toproduce any positive outcome.
