''Be courteous to voters'', Maha Guv tells enrollment officials
Mumbai, Jan 25 (PTI) Maharashtra Governor KSankaranarayanan today advised voter registration officials tosimplify procedures and to be polite to voters whileregistering their names in the electoral rolls.
"Voters are sometimes put off by bureaucratic hassles.
They feel offended if they are asked to come again and againto get their Voter Identity Card ", the Governor said whilespeaking at the National Voters� Day celebrations organised bythe state Chief Electoral Officer here in the MumbaiUniversity.
Expressing concern over the lack of enthusiasm on thepart of urban educated people, young and the middle class toparticipate in electoral process, Sankaranarayanan appealedthe youth to take active interest in governance anddecision-making at all levels.
The Governor appreciated the Election Commission ofIndia for launching the nationwide campaign to identifyeligible voters.
The Governor also distributed Photo Identity Cards andVoter�s Day badges to students attaining the age of 18 on thisoccasion.
State Election Commissioner Dr Neela Satyanarayan,Chief Electoral Officer Debashish Chakrabarty, Vice-Chacellorof SNDT Women�s University Chandra Krishnamurthi andVice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai Dr Rajan Welukar werepresent for the programme.
