Kiran Kumar meets PM

New Delhi, Jan 21 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief MinisterN Kiran Kumar Reddy today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singhand is understood to have discussed the contentious Telanganastatehood issue in the wake of the recommendations made by theJustice Srikrishna Committee.

During the 20-minute long meeting, Reddy is alsounderstood to have discussed the package for farmers affectedby the recent floods in the state.

This is the first meeting between Singh and Reddyafter the Srikrishna Committee submitted its report to theCentre on the Telangana statehood demand.

The Committee had given six options including keepingAndhra Pradesh united with Constitutional statutory powers tothe Telangana region and carving out Telangana from AndhraPradesh.

Though there was no official word on what transpiredat the meeting, Singh and Reddy are believed to have discussedthe situation in the state and the agitation for a separateTelangana state.

The meeting also assumes significance as the Centre islikely to convene a meeting of eight recognised politicalparties from Andhra Pradesh to discuss the SrikrishnaCommittee report.

Reddy also met Home Minister P Chidambaram and isunderstood to have discussed the Telangana issue.

The Congress high command had directed Reddy todiscuss the statehood issue ahead of the all-party meeting.
