Trinamool says LF in WB attacking political opponents

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) A Trinamool Congress delegationtoday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here and charged theruling Left Front in West Bengal with perpetrating violence onits political opponents and deprived sections.

In a move to counter the impact of Chief MinisterBuddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who also met the Prime Minister andHome Minister P Chidambaram today, Trinamool Congress MPs andMLAs alleged "atrocities" by the CPI(M) in the state whichgoes to polls in four months.

The delegation, which also met the Home Minister, wantedthe government to consider advancing of the Assemblyelections, but were told by the central leadership to move theElection Commission in this regard.

"We also informed the Prime Minister that the Marxists arewrongly linking us with the Maoists. It is they who hadbrought the Maoists into West Bengal," senior party leaderSudip Bandopadhyay told PTI after meeting Singh.

Dubbing the CPI(M) as a "terror outfit in practice", hesaid "the Marxists have organised armed camps in the state asthey are desperate. They are getting isolated from the peopleand they know that they will be thrown out of power in thenext elections."

He said the Prime Minister told the Trinamool delegationthat he had asked the Chief Minister to ensure that law andorder was maintained and incidents like the one in Netaivillage near Lalgarh did not recur. Nine people were killed inpolitical violence allegedly by CPI(M) cadres earlier thismonth at Netai.

Bandopadhyay said the Centre should take serious note of"atrocities against scheduled castes, tribes and minorities inWest Bengal".

During the day, the Trinamool Congress leaders held asit-in at the Jantar Mantar, near Parliament House, to focuson these demands.
