Women Rapid bus service begins in KL
Kuala Lumpur, Jan 18 (Bernama) The Wanita (Women) RapidBus service launched will ply 15 selected routes to provide amore comfortable and safe travel for female passengers.
The special service will start full operations fromtoday, with two buses allocated for each route during the dayand evening.
Speaking to reporters after launching the facilityyesterday, Women, Family and Community Development MinisterShahrizat Abdul Jalil said the Wanita Rapid Bus was the bestpublic transport choice for women.
"This is in response to the safety issues raised overwomen''s safety and their lack of comfort during peak hours.
Now they have a choice to use a female-only bus or a regularbus," she said.
During the launch, she also announced an addition ofeight routes to the seven routes introduced during the trialrun of the Wanita Rapid Bas service last month. Seven initialroutes were implemented in two sessions, during the day at6.45am and 7.30am as well as in the evening at 6pm and 6.45pm.
Kumpulan Bas Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana)director Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain said a surveyconducted during the trial period on extending Wanita RapidBus services revealed the move was supported by 92 per cent of1,400 respondents. (Bernama)
