J&K police launch drive against black marketing of LPG
Srinagar, Jan 17 (PTI) In a drive against black marketingof essential commodities, the Jammu and Kashmir Police todayarrested six persons and seized over 200 cooking gas cylindersin the Valley, official sources said.
Acting on a complaint, the police arrested four personsincluding an employee of a gas agency in Ganderbal districtheadquarters, the sources said.
The arrests were made when the accused were allegedlyselling the LPG gas cylinders illegally, instead of deliveringthem directly to consumers.
The police has registered a case under EssentialCommodities Act against the arrested persons, they said.
Two more persons were arrested by police from Sirigufwaraarea of Anantnag district.
The duo were selling LPG Cylinders at exorbitant ratesin the open market, they said adding three vehicles includinga truck with 230 cylinders were seized.
The police drive came after consumers in the Valleycomplained about black-marketing and shortage of cooking gas,the demand for which has increased manifold due to intensecold wave.
