IFFCO chairman Surinder Jakhar shot dead

Firozpur, Jan 17: Surinder Jakhar, chairman of Indian Farmers Fertliser Cooperative (IFFCO), has been shot dead at Abohar, Firozpur. He was the son of former Madhya Pradesh governor and Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar.

His driver brought his bullet-ridden body to the hospital. Unofficial sources say that it could be a case of an accidental fire. Some others suggest that he was attacked by a group of unidentified assailants.

No official statement has been issued by the police.

Surinder, an eminent leader of the Indian cooperative movement was re-elected as the chairman of world's largest and premier fertilizer cooperative IFFCO in 2009.
