Record no. of pilgrims throng Parshuram kund in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jan 16 (PTI) Over 80,000 devotees, includinghundreds of sadhus from across the country, have taken holydip in Parshuram Kund in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradeshon the occasion of Makar Sankranti yesterday.

Most of the pilgrims were from Manipur, Maharastra,Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and various parts of Assam andArunachal Pradesh besides Nepal, Lohit Deputy Commissioner R KSharma said today.

Last year about 60,000 pilgrims thronged the kund,while the number of visitors swelled this year during January,including on Makar Sankranti, touching the one lakh mark, theDC said.

Parshuram Kund, nestled in the lower reaches of LohitRiver is regarded as a holy place for Hindu devotees.

According to the legend, Parshuram had bathed in thiskund to get atoned from his sin of matricide. Thus, it isbelieved that if a person takes a dip in the Kund once, hissins would be wiped out forever.
