One govt panel stone-walling another on food security bill:BJP
New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) In the wake of experts committeenot agreeing to widen the ambit of the proposed Food SecurityBill as suggested by NAC, the BJP today accused the governmentof trying to mislead people as one panel appointed by it wasstone-walling another.
"Congress had been drum beating the initiative as awelfare scheme which has now been stone-walled by anothercommittee of the government. It is a case of yet anotherattempt by the government to mislead people of the country. Itproves the fact again that the government is not serious aboutthe welfare of the poor," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudysaid.
The recommendations of the National Advisory Council(NAC) on Food Security Bill has been rejected by the expertcommittee of the government constituted by Prime Minister andheaded by C Rangarajan, the chairman of the Prime Minister''sEconomic Advisory Council.
BJP cited the Arjun Sen Gupta Committee report to arguethat the ambit of FSA should be widened.
"While Arjun Sen Gupta committee has said that more than70 per cent of the country''s population lives below povertyline, the expert committee has completely disagreed with thepossibility of such a move benefitting people living belowpoverty line," Rudy said.
