BKS to adopt orphans of farmers
Bhopal, Jan 14 (PTI) Holding both the Centre and theMadhya Pradesh government responsible for the suicides byfarmers, the Bharatiya Kishan Sangh (BKS) said here todaythat it would adopt the children of such farmers.
"BKS will adopt those children who had become orphansdue to suicides by farmers following crop damage," its MadhyaPradesh President, Shivkumar Sharma, told reporters.
Appealing to farmers not to take the extreme step, Sharmaasked them not to lose courage.
There is a constant rise in the prices of farm inputs butthe product cost remains the same, he said and added that theagriculture cannot be made a profitable business till theproduct prices are increased.
The BKS President said that in 1965, the price of 10tola of gold was Rs 130, while that of a quintle of wheat wasRs 85. Compared to gold prices now, the wheat should besold at Rs 12,500 per quintle, but the government is givinga support price of Rs 1,120 per quintle only, he said.
