Statue of Mother Velankanni vandalised

Rameswaram (TN), Jan 14 (PTI) A statue of MotherVelankanni at Saint Mother Therasal Church at Thangatchimadamhere was vandalised by unidentified persons, police saidtoday.

The priest of the church Fr Sengol Vedamanickamnoticed the broken statue when he came to the church thismorning for performing prayers, police said.

Police said the statue was removed from the glass boxit was kept in the church premises and broke into pieces.

A large number of people assembled before the churchafter hearing the news and demanded immediate arrest of thosebehind the incident.
