CM unveils new NDMC underpass, electric sub-stations

New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) An underpass aimed at smooth flowof traffic and safe movement of pedestrians to and froSafdarjung railway station and North Moti Bagh was unveiled byDelhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today.

Dikshit also inaugurated two NDMC electric sub-stations atRaja Bazar in Gole Market and on Dr Bhishambar Dass Marg.

"The underpass at Shanti Path, constructed at a cost ofRs 12.33 crore within a time period of one year, will enablefree and safe movement of vehicles as well as pedestrians fromSafdarjung station to North Moti Bagh and vice versa," an NDMCofficial said.

The commuters coming from Ring Road or Rao Tula Ram Margcan also use this underpass to reach directly to Safdarjungstation without taking a long detour on Shanti Path.

The underpass has vehicular carriageway and pedestrianpath separated by railing. Its height is 3.5 metres, width10.3 metres and length 40 metres.

"It has been constructed using box push technique insteadof normal cut and cover method thus avoiding closure oftraffic lanes of Shanti Path and without affecting movement ofvehicles during construction," the official said.

NDMC Chairman Parimal Rai, Vice-Chairperson Tajdar Babarand senior officers of the civic body were present on theoccasion.

NDMC also commissioned two new electric sub-stations of 33KV and 66 KV at Raja Bazar and Dr Bishambar Dass Margrespectively, as a part of "electric system strengthening andupgrading work".

PGCIL was the turnkey consultant for the project and thework has been executed by L&T. Both sub-stations have beencompleted in 18 months.

The cost of Raja Bazar sub-station is Rs 10.11 crore andthat of B D Marg is Rs 16.75 crore. Dedicated rainwaterharvesting systems have been installed in both sub-stations.

These electric sub-stations will ensure interruptedelectricity supply to the adjoining areas of Pt Pant Marg, DrBishambar Dass Marg, Mahadeva Road, Gole Dak Khana, B K S Margand Gole Market.
