BSP worker allegedly assaulted by SP, case registered

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 14 (PTI) A criminal case has beenregistered against Samajawadi Party activists, including theson of a former UP minister, for allegedly assaulting a BSPactivist at Kandhla town of the district here, police said.

The incident occurred yesterday when BSP workersconfronted the SP workers, who were staging a demonstrationdemanding compensation for three victims, who were recentlykilled in an accident here, they said.

Alleging that the SP workers had attacked him, thevictim, Devender Jayant, has lodged a complaint under section307 (Attempt to murder), 323 (Punishment for voluntarilycausing hurt) and Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention ofAtrocities) Act of the IPC, Deputy Superintendent of PoliceS K Shukla said yesterday.

Virender Singh Guggar, former UP minister for AnimalHusbandry whose son Manish Singh, a member of the districtpanchayat, is allegedly involved in the incident, hasthreatened that SP will launch an agitation if its workers arearrested and condemned it as being politically motivated bythe ruling BSP.
