2 youths held for running autos with forged number plates

New Delhi, Jan 13 (PTI) Two youths were arrested herefor allegdly running an autorickshaw with forged numberplates, the police said today.

The arrested have been identified as Devender (30) andSaran Singh (20).

"They were arrested during a vehicle checking drive atSubhash Marg. During checking, the police noticed thatDevender was pulling an auto on foot. He was stopped and askedto produce vehicle documents.

"He could not produce any document as well as hisdriving license. The engine number and chassis number of theTSR were found to be tampered as they were illegible," asenior police official said.

Devender told the police that the auto was a UPregistered one and he had tampered with the engine number andchassis number of that vehicle with the help of weldingmachine.

He had put a Delhi number on the vehicle to avoidchallans as UP numbered vehicles were not allowed in Delhi.

He also told the police that one Saran Singh had soldhim the auto. "Singh told him that he could ply the auto onDelhi roads after altering its engine and chassis number,"the official said.

Singh was also arrested.
