World Bank chief praises Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jan 13 (PTI) Showering praise on formerFinance Minister and current Home Minister P Chidambaram,World Bank President Robert B Zoellick today said he played agood role not only for India but also for the world economy.

"We were colleague when he (Chidambaram) was FinanceMinister. He played a very good role. Not only for India butfor the international economic system," Zoellick toldreporters after meeting Chidambaram.

"I consider him as a friend who is interested in gettinghis perspective on general situations, economically andregionally," the World Bank chief added.

The duo are understood to have discussed about severalprojects in their about half-an-hour meeting.

Zoellick, who is on a four-day visit to the country, isexpected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and FinanceMinister Pranab Mukherjee tomorrow.
