UNDP official calls for Disaster Management Plan for district
Nagapattinam, Jan 12 (PTI) A top official of the UnitedNations Development Programme (UNDP) today called for acomprehensive district-level diasaster management plan for thedisaster-prone district.
J Radhakrishnan, Assistant Country Director, DisasterManagement, UNDP, New Delhi suggested that various governmentdepartments at the district level could prepare individualplans for disaster management, which should be compiled andreleased as a comprehensive plan for the district. The planshould encompass various aspects of disaster-prevention,forecast, mitigation and relief, he said.
Radhakrishnan also suggested that a specific websitecould be created for the district-level disaster managementstrategy. Nagapattinam District Collector C Muninathan saidthe awareness level over disaster management had increasedsignificantly among the people of the district, paving the wayfor safeguarding lives during natural calamities like floods.
