Rajasthan to distribute onion on wholesale rate

Jaipur, Jan 12 (PTI) To control prices of onion, theRajasthan government has decided to distribute the vegetableat wholesale rates through 1,100 distribution centres acrossthe state.

The decision to import onion was also taken in a highlevel review meeting chaired by the state civil and foodsupply minister Babu Lal Naagar.

The minister said that a committee headed by PrincipalSecretary Food would monitor purchasing and distribution ofonion at the state level, and a control room will be set up tomonitor the process.

"We have decided to make onion available on reasonableprice at 1,100 centers including 650 PDS shops and 300 dairybooths and consumer centers across the state. Onion will bemade available to public on wholesale rate through thesecenters and a team will be dispatched to Nasik and Bhavnagarto purchase onion soon," Naagar said.

Cooperation of traders will also be sought incontrolling the price, he added.
