Jharkhand to make some changes in strategy against Maoists
Ranchi, Jan 13 (PTI) Jharkhand police have decided tomake some changes in its strategy to combat left-wingextremism with more action on inter-state borders, DirectorGeneral of Police (DGP) Neyaz Ahmed said today.
"We expect more success in 2011 and we will change thestrategy slightly like moving security forces to new placesand launching operation on border areas, and having morecooperation with Bihar, Orissa and Bengal," Ahmed told a newsconference here.
Stating that he had spoken to DGPs of Orissa, Bengaland Bihar on Tuesday, Ahmed said meetings would be convenedto discuss strategy before launching anti-naxal operations.
"During the year-end operations, the police had busteda Maoist laboratory in Bokaro that got vital information whichskuttled their (Maoist operational) plans," he said.
Stating that the security forces had been launchingoperations based on intelligence, Ahmed said as many as 45top-ranked Maoists and naxalites of other groups were arrestedin 2010.
"Area commanders and top national and state-levelnaxalites were arrested. This year our priority will be to putcases (against them) on fast track (for conviction)," he saidand added cases of 64 naxalites had been ended in theirconviction in 2009/10. .
