Jallikattu: Court nod sought to prevent erection of hoardings
Madurai, Jan 12 (PTI): A resident of Alanganallur village,where Jallikattu (taming the bull) game is held annually inconnection with Pongal festival today sought a direction fromMadras High Court bench to appoint an Advocate Commissionerand prevent erection of hoardings and issue of towels andbanians by political parties against Supreme Court guidelines.
Justices N Paul Vasanthakumar and R Subbiah disposed thepetition after recording the submission of the Executiveofficer of Alanganallur town panchayat that they would followthe Apex Court orders with regard to conduct of Jallikattu andthat �ts guidelines would be adhered to with reference toerecting of hoardings and flexboards.
Petitioner M Periagangai said Jallikattu, a function ofthe local people, was being conducted as if it was that of aparticular political party. Parties were competing with eachother in issuing banians and towels for participants, leadingto a tense atmosphere.
