APMC sells onions directly to consumers

Nashik, Jan 12 (PTI) In a move that has come as arelief for the common man, the Agriculture Produce MarketCommittee (APMC) of Lasalgaon near here today launched ascheme to sell onions directly in the open market.

Customers are being sold onions, whose soaring pricesin the last few months had badly affected people, directlyunder Maharashtra government''s "producers-to-consumers"scheme.

APMC brought 80 quintals of onions of three varietiesand sold them to the consumers at Rs 18, 25 and 32 per kgrates, Jaydutta Holkar and Balasaheb Kshirsagar, Chairman andDeputy Chairman of Lasalgaon APMC, told reporters.
