Centre to issue notices to deemed universities: Sibal
New Delhi, Jan 11 (PTI) HRD Minister Kapil Sibal todaysaid the Centre will issue show-cause notices to all deemeduniversities and take a decision on each case within a giventimeframe.
"Now that the Supreme Court has asked us, we will beissuing show-cause notices to each one of them and within thetimeframe mentioned in the report we will decide on each andevery individual case," Sibal told reporters here.
Forty-four deemed universities under a cloud for lackingappropriate academic infrastructure standards today received ashot in the arm with the Centre assuring the Supreme Courtthat it would have a re-look on the decision to derecognisethem.
Attorney General G E Vahanvati gave the undertaking to abench of justices Dalveer Bhandari and Deepak Verma that thegovernment would reconsider its earlier decision and sendfresh individual notices, grant personal hearing andopportunity to make further representation.
Sibal insisted that the government was yet to take anydecision in the matter.
"Government has not decided anything yet. There was anExpert Committee report. In principle, we agree with theexpert committee report," he said.
