Teacher avenges rape, stabs BJP MLA

Patna, Jan 4: When the system failed to render justice to a woman, she took the law into her own hands. The incident happened at Purnia in Bihar when a lady teacher, Rupam Pathak stabbed BJP MLA Raj Kishore Keshri at a public event. The MLA was accused of raping and sexually harassing her.

Pathak chose the most opportune moment to attack the MLA when she stood in a queue to meet the MLA. According to an eyewitness, she wielded a knife from under her shawl and stabbed the MLA in the neck. He died from the acute blood loss from a burst spleen. She also stabbed Keshri in the stomach and heart making the demise immediate.

Rupam is a school teacher in Purnia and was beaten up by those present at the MLA's residence. She is reported to be critically injured and has been admitted to the government hospital in Purnia.

Additional Director General of Police PK Thakur said, "The accused woman has been arrested. We will know the reason for his murder only after interrogation. This is an unfortunate incident."

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an enquiry into the stabbing, while the Deputy CM and BJP leader Sushil Modi condemned the act and said, "She was trying to blackmail him (Kehsri). He was a dedicated member of our party. This is very sad. What was her motive and who are the people behind this is a matter of investigation. She never registered a case. Police registered the case only after this come in a local daily. I will request people to maintain peace. I will go there (Purnia)."
