Kalmadi gets a breather till Jan 3 from CBI

Suresh Kalmadi
New Delhi, Dec 30: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seem to be having a hand-full of questioning these days. The latest one to be questioned is Suresh Kalmadi, CWG Organising Committee (OC) chief.

Under the scanner for his alleged misappropriation of funds, Kalmadi was summoned by CBI for questioning and served a notice for this purpose. The CBI has taken the necessary approvals from the Lok Sabha Secretariat as he is a LS member.

As with A Raja, Kalmadi too had asked for time to appear before the CBI. The time for grilling has been decided after January 3. Allegations include frauds in awarding of contracts to foreign parties for overlays work, siphoning of funds, and the massive irregularity in the conducting of the Queen's Baton Relay in London.

The CBI had earlier raided Kalmadi's residences and questioned key CWG members. They have also filed three FIR's for the various offenses. The investigative agency is also looking into the matter of destruction of evidence and key documents gone missing.

Sources have revealed that the CBI have found evidence of criminal conspiracy by certain CWG officials. They are suspected of tampering with documents and manipulating information in them.
