Products by jail inmates popular at New Delhi's Trade Fair
New Delhi, Nov.17 (ANI): Products made by Tihar jail inmates are attracting visitors in the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) in New Delhi.
Handicrafts, showpieces, snacks, gift items and readymade garments are some of the products which have been put on display.
A Non-Government Organisation (NGO) called Arman, which is helping the inmates, said it is trying to highlight their talent.
"We have been giving vocational training in Tihar Jail for many years now. With the help of different ministries we are giving them training in the skills that they have. The main aim of our organisation is whether that inmate has committed a crime or not, and he is punished so he or she will have to spend time in the jail," said Niru Arya, the General Secretary of Arman.
"And passing time inside the prison becomes difficult. We use that time to teach them. Ministries also provide them raw materials. Then whatever the end product is, we bring it here," she added.
Buyers and visitors feel the attempt would encourage the inmates.
This year's event is the 30th edition of the IITF.
The estimated budget of this grand trade expo is expected to be in the range of 1 billion dollars.
Twenty-three countries have showcase a wide range of products and services and special arrangements have been made at their stalls and pavilions for security. (ANI)
