PC extends Nagaland in 'Disturbed Area' list

Dimapur, Nov 3: Despite Nagaland government's plea to withdraw Nagaland from the 'Disturbed Area' list, the Centre on Tuesday, Nov 2 declared Nagaland in the list for a further period.

While presenting the report of the home ministry for the month of Oct, said the period has been extended from Oct 20, to Jun 30, 2011 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

As the disturbed States get the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme for state police forces, reports say Nagaland gets Rs. 1.13 crore from the Centre.

The Disturbed States include Punjab, Orissa, Manipur, and Jammu and Kashmir.
