Fate of blueline buses in Delhi to be decided today
New Delhi, Oct.25 (ANI): The Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely is scheduled to meet the blueline bus owners today to decide the future of the bus services in the national capital.
Over 1,600 blueline buses ply in the national capital region.
According to the reports, the Delhi government wants replace the private buses with the new fleet of DTC buses.
The DTC has inducted over 1,000 new low-floor buses during the Commonwealth Games to ferry athletes and dignitaries and is scheduled to induct more buses into its fleet in the coming days.
According to the Transport Ministry officials, the government is fully committed to phase out the Blueline buses as the state-owned Delhi Transport Corporation now has adequate number of buses to meet the requirements of Delhiites.
The Government has been planning the removal of the blueline buses for the past couple of years but was not able to do in the absence of an alternative plan.
The Delhi High Court had stayed the Government's move to phase out the Blueline buses in February this year arguing that the DTC alone was not capable of meeting the requirement of public transport. (ANI)
