Kerala: Mother throws kids into river

Kottayam, Oct 18: Just weeks after a metally-ill mother drowned her 8-year-old baby in Kerala's Alappuzha, a similar incident took place in Kottayam, where a mother tried to kill her children by throwing them into the river.

30-year-old Kavita threw her seven-year-old son and three-year-old daughter into a river at Kovilkadavu in Marayoor in Idukki district on Sunday, Oct 17 evening, before jumping into the water herself.

However, the children managed to survive the mother's suicide plot as the boy, identified as Jeeva, caught hold of a pipe and saved his sister, Kavya, from drowning.

The incident came to light when the children told their maternal aunt about it.

The body of the woman is yet to be found.

This incident comes after a 40-year-old mother drowned her 8-month old baby in a washing machine in Alappuzha in Sep 2010.
