K'taka MLAs case to new bench; breather for BSY

Bangalore, Oct 18: Handing out another breather to Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, the Karnataka High Court, hearing the rebel MLAs' disqualification case, on Monday, Oct 18 decided to refer the matter to another bench and adjourned the hearing.

The High Court's decision to refer the case to a new bench came after differences emerged between two judges of the bench over the role of Speaker, KG Bopaiah, and behaviour of the dissident MLAs.

While Chief Justice Khehar Singh upheld the Speaker's order, Justice N Kumar rejected it.

The hearing in the 11 BJP MLAs case will be held on Oct 20, while the next hearing in connection with the appeal filed by the five independent MLAs will be heard on Nov 2.
