Chidambaram lauds people of Delhi for their attitude towards security arrangements

New Delhi, Oct.16 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said on Saturday that there has been an attitudinal change in the people of Delhi towards security arrangements as well as that of the Delhi Police personnel in the wake of recently concluded Commonwealth Games.

Addressing the 15th Nagaland Armed Police (IR) Mahila Batallion, which was deployed during the Games, Mr. Chidambaram said: "No one found anything negative about the security arrangements for the Games. People of Delhi have possibly learnt to live and adjust their behaviour to the stringent security situations."

The Union Home Minister further stated that Delhi Police personnel also showed much courteous and helpful behaviour during their duties at the Games.

He expressed the hope that this change in attitude would last forever.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chidambaram appreciated the personnel and officers of 15th Nagaland Armed Police (IR) Mahila Batallion for performing their duties with dedication and efficiency.

The Mahila Batallion performed as effectively as any other Force, proving that they are in no way less than their male counterparts, the Union Home Minister stated.

He said that Mahila Battalions had been raised to remove the myth of gender bias.

On the issue of the need for lightweight weapons for the Mahila Batallion, Mr. Chidambaram said that the Ministry would surely look into this aspect when procurements take place. (ANI)
