Kidnap accused attempts suicide in Goa court room

The 24-year-old accused, identified as Salim Sheikh, tried to slit his throat with a sharp object after the court extended his judicial custody by 14 days.
Quoting Public Prosecutor Poonam Bharne, media reports state that the man, who appeared uneasy after the court order extending his custody, attempted suicide with a sharp object which suddenly appeared in his hand.
The Mapusa police said that the accused was immediately rushed to Goa Medical College at Aambolim.
The judge, who was busy writing the final order, when the incident took place, has directed the police to file a case of attempt to suicide against Sheikh.
The Mumbai-based man has been accused of kidnapping his four-year-old nephew from Mapusa, located 10 km from Panaji. He allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 from victim's grandfather, a rag picker.
Saleem Sheikh was arrested in Mumbai on Sep 15.
