Ayodhya verdict: Bulk SMS ban extended till Sep 30

On receiving clearance from the Supreme Court, the Allahabad High Court has decided to deliver the verdict in the 60-year long Ram Temple-Babri Masjid dispute at 3:30 pm on Thursday, Sep 30.
Taking note of this, the government extented the ban on bulk text (SMS) and multimedia
(MMS) messages till Sep 30.
The Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, in consultation with Home Ministry, had first on Wednesday, Sep 22 passed a directive banning bulk messaging ahead of the earlier slated date for the verdict - Sep 24.
However, when the Supreme Court on Sep 23 stayed the High Court verdict on a deferment plea, the ban was extended till Sep 29.
Now, the ban, aimed at preventing cellphones from being used to spread rumours, distribute objectionable content and create panic ahead of and after the verdict, will be effective till the judgement is passed on Thursday, Sep 30.
