Maya DA case: SC slams CBI for dragging its feet

New Delhi, Sep 27: The Supreme Court censured the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for dragging its feet in the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's disproportionate assests (DA) case.

Enraged by the constant pleas for adjourment the apex court bench on Monday, Sep 27 said, "What is this? Every time, you seek time or an adjournment. Sometimes, you seek time for filing reply, then you say that you want to file a counter-affidavit then you say that you want to file an affidavit."

The bench of Justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar also told the CBI counsel that the petition must go if the agency was not keen on pursuing the case.

"If both of you are together then let this petition go," the bench noted.

The apex court's remarks, in response to the CBI counsel sought an adjournment of the matter on the plea of filing a reply in the case, stands in contrast with Mayawati's charge against the CBI that it was acting as a hand tool of the Congress and that the DA case against her was not authentic.
