SIT to probe Ishrat death case
The team appointed to investigate the case consists of two members of the Gujarat Police and a representative of the Delhi Police.
Ishrat, a college student who was 19, her boyfriend, and two others were killed by the Gujarat police on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on Jun 2004.
At that time, the police claimed that the four were planning to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
A magisterial inquiry by Justice SP Tamang said Jehan had been killed in a fake encounter by policemen who wanted to win Modi's appreciation, promotions and medals.
Ishrat's family had asked for a CBI inquiry into the case, but this was rejected by the Supreme Court.
