SC pulls up centre for Rs 70 per month as pension

Supreme Court
New Delhi, Sep 18: The Supreme Court slammed the government for the shocking plight of a 90-year-old war widow who draws a measly Rs 70 as family pension.

Pushpavanti has been fighting a battle to meet her needs with least amount of pension on behalf of her late husband Major Dharam Chand, who had been a decorated officer of two wars.

For the last 43 years she has been running pillar to post including the Army chief to enhanced pension. But officers have turned deaf ear to all her pleas.

Pushpavanti has now appealed to the court saying that she is entitled to at least Rs 27,000 rupees per month according to the latest pay commission recommendations.

The Supreme Court has taken notice of her plight and assured her of better payment.
