Yamuna continues to swell; flood fear grips Delhi
As predicted earlier by the authorities, the Yamuna went above the 206 mark on Saturday, Sep 11 after Haryana released nearly one lakh cusec water on Friday, Sep 10.
The water has seeped into low lying areas, which were evacuated earlier as the threat of floods loomed large.
The Delhi government continues to appeal for calm saying that the situation is under control and the National Disaster Management Authority ( NDMA) is on the standby.
The second flood scare this monsoon season began on Thursday, Sep 9 when Yamuna touched the danger mark after the influx 8 lakh cusec of water from Hatnikund barrage upstream in Haryana.
At 3 pm on Friday, Sep 10, the water level was at 205.88 metres.
If the water level rises above the 207 meters, Delhi could face severe floods.
