Govt to send notices to Skype, Gmail & MSN

On Monday, Aug 30, the meeting, chaired by Home Secretary GK Pillai and attended by Special Secretary (Internal Security) UK Bansal, officials from the telecom department, the Intelligence Bureau and the National Technical Research Organisation, decided to send notices to Skype, Gmail, MSN Hotmail and VPN and also extended the BlackBerry's deadline for two months.
Telecom officials told that notices will be issued to all those whose services cannot be monitored by the Indian security agencies and will be asked to set up servers in India to enable lawful interception.
"We are very clear, anything which must be lawfully intercepted has to be made accessible to us, that too in an intelligible and readable format," said a senior official.
