Impasse over N-deal expected to end soon

Indo-US Nuclear Deal
New Delhi, Aug 17: The contentious Indo-US nuclear bill is almost set to achieve consensus as the government and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have decided to figure out a solution to put an end to the stand-off.

Quoting sources reports state that senior BJP leaders, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Yashwant Sinha are set to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the issue.

The government seems to be bent on securing the support from BJP so that it can be passed before US president, Barack Obama's visit to the country.

The chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, T Subbirami Reddy has also expressed confidence that a consensus in Parliament on the bill can be expected soon.

Mr Reddy added that the bill is likely to be tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, Aug 18.

The committee, which has been studying the bill, has recommended few amendments.

"Every issue raised by the members was discussed threadbare and amendments suggested by them are being considered," the chairman said.

Reports suggest that the committee has also recommended increasing the liability cap from 500 to 1500 crores.
