NHRC gives Chandigarh health official a month to reply on pregnant woman case

New Delhi, Aug.13 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging that a lady delivered a child while standing in a queue of a Government Hospital in Chandigarh on July 21.

Allegedly, the hospital authorities refused to admit her without the reports of certain tests. Even after the delivery, she was not given proper medical care, as a result, the child died immediately after the birth. The media report was carried on July 22.

The Commission observed that the contents of media report, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights, and issued a notice to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Union Territory Secretariat, Chandigarh calling for a report in the matter within four weeks after the date of its receipt.(ANI)
