Goa Shiv Sena in extortion case

Panaji, Aug 11: The Goa unit of Shiv Sena, which has always protested against casinos and gambling den, has now landed in a soup as the party chief allegedly tried to extort Rs 15 Lakh from a casino management.

Porvorim police has booked a case of extortion against chief Upendra Gaonkar alongwith party's vice-president Umesh Salgaoncar for demanding money from Hotel Majestic, which runs a land-based casino.

Salgaoncar was arrested on Tuesday, Aug 10 night. However, Gaonkar is yet to be tracked down.

According to the police, Gaonkar had personally contacted the hotel management demanding money, which was scaled down from initial Rs 50 lakh to Rs 15 lakh and later to Rs 50,000.
