Congress Padayatra reaches Bellary's outskirts
Bellary, Aug 9: After covering a distance of 320 km from Bangalore on foot against Karnataka"s BJP government for its failure to check illegal mining, Congress activists on Monday, Aug 9 reached Bellary"s outskirts.
The Congress launched the long march, billed as "Nada Rakshana Nadige" (Walk to save Karnataka), on Jul 25 mainly to take on the BJP ministers, the Reddy brothers, over their alleged illegal mining of iron ore.
The marchers, led by Leader of Opposition in the assembly Siddaramiah, state Congress chief R v Deshpande, working president D K Shivakumar and Leader of the Opposition in council Motamma, is expected to enter Bellary around 1 pm.
Tight security arrangements have been made so that the rally goes off peacefully.
It has been reported that State Congress heavyweights will address a rally to mark the end of the 16-day-long walk.
Earlier on Friday, Aug 6, Karnataka Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy said "We are welcoming all these Congress people, heartily to Bellary. I have told all my BJP workers to treat them like our guests. Let them come to Bellary and see the development."
