D.Y.F.I protests over unemployment and soaring prices

Kolkata/Siliguri/Mumbai, Aug 3 (ANI): Scores of Democratic Youth Federation of India (D.Y.F.I) activists took to the streets here on Tuesday to protest unemployment and the soaring prices.

The activists, who shouted anti-Government slogans, later blocked roads and stopped road and rail traffic for half an hour during their protest.

"One lakh seventy two posts are vacant in Indian Railways. On behalf of the youth society, we are demanding that all the seats be filled and all the unemployed youth be given jobs," said D.Y.F.I Zonal Committee Member Subho Chakraborty.

"We also demand an end to the abrupt, abnormal price hiking of the petroleum and its by-products, which have been hiked in the last one year due to the anti-people economic policy of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre," he added.

Similar protests were carried out in West Bengal's Siliguri city, where the activists blocked road traffic by forming a human chain.

The activists later stopped trains and accused the Central Government of not fulfilling its promise of controlling price rise.

"The promise made by the UPA Government that they will distribute rice with a rupees of two and will lower down the price of the essential commodities in our country has not been fulfilled," said D.Y.F.I Darjeeling District Secretary Sankar Ghosh.

"But for last one and a half years, what we see, everybody knows it well that everywhere price hike is enormous. Common people they are not getting enough to food to run their livelihood," he added.

The activists in Maharashtra demanded the State Government to implement policies without delay to increase employment and implement the existing youth policies.

"We are demonstrating in the entire country and in different parts of districts of Maharashtra to get our demands heard," said D.Y.F.I Secretary Shailendra Kamble. (ANI)
