Naga group to restart blockade in Manipur
New Delhi, Aug 2: As the central government has failed in executing its promises, an economic blockade of Manipur for 20 days from Wednesday, Aug 4 will be started, announced the United Naga Council on Sunday, Aug 1.
"The United Naga Council is compelled to resume the temporarily suspended economic blockade with effect from 6 am of Aug 4 for 20 days, as the five days ultimatum submitted on Jul 27 to the Prime Minister of India has evoked no response till date," said the council.
The Naga group has four demands.
The first demand is setting up a judicial inquiry into the May 6 incident at Mao Gate, where two people were killed more than 100 injured when Manipur Police opened fire on protesters.
Secondly, dissolution of the "undemocratically instituted" autonomous district councils.
Thirdly, immediate withdrawal of the imposed section of 144 CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code) and demilitarization of the Naga areas by removal of the Indian Reserve Battalion and Manipur Police commandos.
And their fourth demand is the removal of "Wanted" tag and rewards imposed on the Naga leaders.
The central government had promised them to make out solutions of the demands and out of the assurance the Naga group lifted its earlier economic blockade on Jun 18.
